Three 436th SFS Ravens awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. John De La Cruz, right, 436th Security Forces Squadron Phoenix Raven, is presented the Distinguished Flying Cross with “C” device, by Col. Justin Longmire, 436th Airlift Wing deputy commander, at the base theater on Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, Aug. 5, 2024. On Aug. 15, 2021, De La Cruz was a Phoenix Raven aboard a C-17A Globemaster III noncombatant evacuation mission at Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ALLIES REFUGE and was personally exposed to significant risk as the airfield's security perimeter breach placed him and the aircraft under constant threat of small arms fire and mobs of Afghan civilians desperate for escape.
