Lt. Gen. Sam Cox, 18th Air Force commander, speaks with Airmen from the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, Dec. 21, 2016. Cox flew to Al Udeid to meet with members of the 385th Air Expeditionary Group, responsible for providing combat airlift in the U.S. Central Command area. The 816th EAS performs air drop missions, cargo and passenger transfers and aeromedical evacuation missions. The squadron flies the C-17 Globemaster III and has the ability to land on semi-prepared runways in austere locations on a moment's notice.
