MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --

Each year, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center announces Air Force Design Award winners to recognize innovative projects for excellence in design and efficiency. The highest achievers are named Honor Award recipients.

Among the 2019 Honor Award winners, was MacDill Air Force Base Community Park, in recognition of its landscape architecture.

“This award is very special to the members of our design team who are all civilian contractors,” said Rene Rodriguez, the 6th Civil Engineer Squadron senior architect. “We are honored to contribute to the architectural design for this project and serve those who serve our country.”

According to Rodriguez, MacDill AFB Community Park’s design was based around a timeline to honor MacDill’s history and the history of the Air Force.

The community park serves as an outdoor amphitheater, and host site for numerous gatherings and functions on base.

Team MacDill is proud to have such a beautifully designed location, with usable space that its service members will be able to utilize for years to come.

“The design of Community Park is directly in-line with the innovative thinking of the members of Team MacDill,” said Col. Stephen Snelson, the 6th Air Refueling Wing commander.  “To win the 2019 Honor Award for the Air Force Design Award, is a true testament to the excellence of our contracting teams, builders and landscapers who had a hand in the development of this project.”
